i look at my mother
her hair is graying
she’s always in painshe shakes when lifting the milk
her hand perpetually on the side of her backshe’s holding herself together
she’s trying her bestmother i can’t give you a grandchild
i’m not like you, i’m not strongyou’re staring out the window in a daze
watching the grass move with the windare you remembering
are you regrettingi recall the last time you held me in your arms
your hair was a beautiful brown and you were so full of lifemother hold me again
one last time
An illustration I did in this week New Yorker for an article about feral cats in California by Jonathan Franzen.

āIsnāt it weird that [thing humans commonly eat] is poisonous to literally every domesticated animalā I mean, thereās a pretty good chance that [thing humans commonly eat] is at least mildly poisonous to humans, too. One of our quirks as a species is that we think our food is bland if it doesnāt have enough poison in it.
Humans have a really weird mix of mundane superpowers.
Weāre not fast and donāt have a lot of natural weaponry but weāre bizarrely tolerant to a broad range of toxins to the point that one toxin is considered a morning necessity for some to perform at work. Gotta love us.

all these retro style games that are like āNO tutorials NO handholdingā apparently forgot about the little books that used to come with your game that detailed all the mechanics, controls, special moves, lore, maps, collectables, means of unlocking additional content, character bios, etc
i remember there were a few games that would even include what was essentially a walkthrough/strategy guide for the first level or two, i dont get what these retro devs are on lmao
hadnt actually considered that. much to think about
